Hyperthermia
(9/8/03) Almost every summer there’s a deadly heat wave somewhere in the nation. Being in the heat for too long can cause hyperthermia, especially for people over the age of 50 or with health problems. As the temperature climbs this summer, share information about hyperthermia with at-risk individuals in your community, and check in on your homebound relatives and neighbors who could be affected by a heat-related illness.

Take Action with information from the National Institute on Aging.

Greetings!

All of us at the United Health Foundation are pleased that you are taking an active interest in your health by visiting our web site!   Our mission is to provide you with the most trustworthy and evidence-based information to support the health and medical decisions you make for yourself, your family and your community.

One of the Foundation's major initiatives is the production of a series for educational tips for more informed decision making in areas such as Getting the Most Out of a Visit to the Doctor's Office, Taking Charge of Your Care and Using Antibiotics Appropriately.  To ensure that we are providing you with the most trustworthy and usable information, we are proud to partner with the following expert organizations:

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

National Cancer Institute

National Health Council

U.S. Food and Drug Administration

National Patient Safety Foundation

National Cancer Institute

The Children’s Health Fund

Each of the educational tips provides useful information via major magazines and in downloadable formats on this web site that encourages and supports the use for evidence-based information in making health-care choices.   Thousands of people and organizations have downloaded these tips and the wealth of material that supports each tip for use in college and high school classrooms, employee newsletters and health fairs, libraries and textbooks.   We encourage you to take advantage of these resources that are available to you without restriction.  Let us know if you would like copies sent to you to be used as posters.  (info@unitedhealthfoundation.org)

In the final analysis, it is our belief that the more we know about health and the more we know about making informed health decisions, the healthier we'll be.

To your health!

Reed Tuckson, MD
