Wisconsin is 12th this year; it was 10th in

Strengths:
Strengths include high immunization coverage with 86.8 percent of
children ages 19 to 35 months receiving complete immunizations, a
high rate of high school graduation with 85.8 percent of incoming
ninth graders who graduate within four years, a low occupational
fatalities rate at 3.8 deaths per 100,000 workers, a low incidence
of infectious disease at 6.1 cases per 100,000 population and a
low rate of uninsured population at 8.8 percent.
Challenges:
Challenges include a high prevalence of binge drinking at 24.2
percent of the population, a high prevalence of obesity at 26.6
percent of the population and a high prevalence of smoking at 20.8
percent of the population.

Changes:
↑ In the past
year, the violent crime rate increased from 242 to 284 offenses
per 100,000 population.

year, the percentage of children in poverty increased from 13.6
percent to 15.5 percent of persons under age 18.

the prevalence of smoking decreased from 26.3 percent to 20.8
percent of the population.

Health
Disparities:
In Wisconsin,
blacks experience 103 percent more premature death than whites.
Deaths from cancer in the state are 34 percent more prevalent
among blacks than whites. In the large metropolitan areas,
residents in the central counties experience 76 percent more
premature death than residents in the fringe counties.
