percent of the population, moderate immunization coverage with

care physicians per 100,000 population and a moderate rate of
uninsured population at 13.7 percent.
Challenges:
Challenges include a high rate of preventable hospitalizations
with 97.8 discharges per 1,000 Medicare enrollees, a high violent
crime rate at 760 offenses per 100,000 population, a high infant
mortality rate at 9.5 deaths per 1,000 live births and a high rate
of cardiovascular deaths at 379.5 deaths per 100,000 population

Disparities:
In Tennessee,

Deaths from cancer in the state are 29 percent more prevalent
among blacks than whites. Residents in non-urban areas of the
state experience 34 percent more premature death than those in the
fringe counties of large metropolitan areas.
