Strengths include a high rate of high school graduation with 87.6
percent of incoming ninth graders who graduate in four years, few
poor mental and physical health days per month at 2.6 days and 3.0
days in the previous 30 days respectively and a low premature
death rate with 6,238 years of potential life lost before age 75
per 100,000 population.
Challenges:
Challenges include a high prevalence of binge drinking at 17.9
percent of the population, limited access to adequate prenatal
care with 70.3 percent of pregnant women receiving adequate
prenatal care and a high prevalence of obesity at 26.9 percent of
the population.

blacks experience 85 percent more premature death than whites.
Deaths from cancer are 41 percent more prevalent among blacks than
whites, even though incidence rates are approximately equal.
