Strengths:
Strengths include high immunization coverage with 85.2 percent of
children ages 19 to 35 months receiving complete immunizations,
ready access to adequate prenatal care with 81.9 percent of
pregnant women receiving adequate prenatal care and a high rate of
high school graduation with 80.4 percent of incoming ninth graders
who graduate within four years. Missouri ranks higher for health
determinants than for health outcomes, indicating that overall
healthiness should improve over time.
Challenges:
Challenges include a high rate of deaths from cardiovascular
disease at 355.7 deaths per 100,000 population, a high rate of
cancer deaths at 213.7 deaths per 100,000 population and many poor
mental and physical health days per month at 3.7 days and 3.8 days
in the previous 30 days, respectively.
